Released just a few months ago, Paulo from Embalmed Souls noticed that I had featured the band's other demos on this blog, and was kind enough to send me a copy of their latest demo "Six Rites of Possession" as a form of promotion. This is going to be a "megapost" in that I'll not only review and post the demo, but I will also upload pictures and inserts that came with the release, as well as flyers and other paraphernalia that was sent to me. I highly recommend that you all get into contact with Paulo (who manages the band's email and mail), as he is a very nice guy and open-minded, willing to trade and talk about music.

I have ripped this in a beautiful 320 kbps, and if you'd like it in any other format, just give me a holler. Included on this demo are not only their newest six songs (tracks 1-6), but also the five tracks from their 2005 demo "The Temple of Bizarre Cult" (tracks 7-11).

REVIEW
All of Embalmed Souls' music is recorded live to, and I quote Paulo, "keep our music nearest to the most natural sound possible". I personally love it this way, as you know there are no funky things going on; just pure, raw Death Metal in the most lively and unadulterated form out there. Very reminiscent of the older days of old school metal and quite the refreshing listen.

Much like their previous releases, Embalmed Souls continue with their dark and arcane style of crushing Death Metal, filled with an overwhelming sense of impending destruction. Very heavy, full-sounding, and fast-paced, Six Rites of Possession doesn't let up once and again I get the feeling (only this band manages it) that I'm being chased through never-ending corridors by some enigma, oozing darkness and doom. The vocals are dirty gutturals, complementing the music perfectly. Evil prevails over all other atmospheric elements presented here. Gravely riffs saturate the release, and Embalmed Souls continue with yet another brilliantly impressive demo to keep Death Metal alive. If only others would follow in the footsteps left behind by these guys, the future of metal would be a much brighter and promising place. If only...

I don't even remember where I found these recordings; I was just surfing through my library the other day, came across them, and decided to throw 'em up on the ol' blog. Endless Carnage play music as their name suggests: total chaos and really hateful Death Metal with a nice Blackened tinge on the side. The production is very raw and underproduced, especially when it comes to distinguishing the drums; they are seemingly out there, separated from the rest of the music. Still, and enjoyable and entertaining listen. Not exactly the most impressive stuff out there, but they are still fairly unknown, so it can't hurt to give these guys a shot!

Plus, they're from Brazil, and Brazil is automatically awesome when it comes to Death and Black Metal!

Embalmed Souls were another band who, unfortunately, were unable to make it past the demo process, for whatever reason. In fact, their existence spans from 1990 until the present. Who knows why they couldn't find the time to record a proper release, but, frankly, I don't care, seeing as how the three demos I'm posting are solid, top-notch old school Death Metal. It's a fucking crime that these guys aren't more well-known and I'm amazed at how such an obscure band, garnering ZERO attention over almost 20 years stays motivated and continues to churn out such impressive work! It should also be worth noting that these demos aren't just one or two short songs, but quite long and all above 20 minutes, with this one exceeding 38 minutes in length!

This particular demo has a very omnious sound. They do the whole "dark" thing quite well and I feel like I'm hurriedly roaming endless corridors in a dungeon, while something is hunting me down. Can't quite put my finger on it, but that's the beauty of this demo; it's dark and enigmatic. A sense of impending doom is ever-looming. Riffing is done very well to help with this atmosphere and the vocals are (while lost in the mix a bit) what you'd expect when walking in on a demon with his head bowed, and a smile slowly creeping across his face, his eyes hidden in darkness...

Come, let darkness devour your soul...

They've done it again! Embalmed Souls are back, with an even darker, heavier demo. The atmosphere these guys create is full of evil malice and dark doom. The whole thing is even heavier than their first offering and actually sounds like downright hellspawn. I'm getting scared listening to this. The vocals seem to be even lower in the mix and less audible, but that's hardly a concern when the instrumental atmosphere has completely taken over. The riffs are creeping and deadly, like they're going to strike at any minute and pull you down into the fiery depths of hell. If I were going to take up a life of pure, unadulterated evil and insane madness, this would be my soundtrack of choice. And just when you thought it couldn't get any more bleak or hopeless, a haunting guitar solo peers out of the darkness, taking control and spinning this hellish world around you. Just give up; there's nothing you can do to escape this music...

15 years since their incarnation, and only their fourth real recording, Embalmed Souls have definitely taken the time and energy to create another high-quality slab of Death Metal. Much more modern sounding; the drums are higher in the mix, as well as the vocals, these guys continue to slay their way through Brazil. The very same morbidly devastating atmosphere is still hear and I can actually hear similarities to Necros Christos in the way the music is played. Gloom and despondent darkness saturate the recording, with very depressive riffs signifying only one thing: death. I feel like I'm going to die after listening to this. I mean, the music practically screams "You're gonna die! Die!" Unbelievable. This has got to be the most atmosphere I've ever heard in a Death Metal band. Ever. Recommended.
